Lahore, May 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with the Archives and Libraries Department, S and GAD, is opening 9 days’ exhibition tomorrow May 31, 2018 at 3 p.m. on ‘Fear and Vengeance in 1857,’ at Anarkali’s Tomb, Civil Secretariat, Lahore, which will continue till June 8, 2018.

The exhibition is based on the invaluable record held at the Punjab Archives from the events of 1857-8, including daily reports, correspondence, historical lithographs and other memorabilia. The theme of ‘Fear and Vengeance’ is specially chosen to focus on the human element of the Great Rebellion, the initial fear of the mutinied sepoys by the British, and the ultimate vengeance inflicted upon the defeat by the government of the East India Company.

The exhibition uses documents, lithographs and a sound archive, to create a unique atmosphere for the visitor to experience the events of 1857 in a creative manner, while also enabling research and teaching on the subject. On this occasion Dr Umar Saif, Chairman, PITB, said that it was our dream to open up the Punjab Archives to the world, and this exhibition would showcase our continued efforts to engage not only scholars but the general people in the endeavour. The past was our guide and we must learn from it by further dissemination and interaction with our heritage records, he added.
