A police officer assigned to protect a polio vaccination team was shot and killed on Friday in a targeted attack in the border city of Chaman.
The fatal incident took place in the Union Council Roghani 3 area, where assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on the health workers” security detail during a vaccination campaign. The attackers managed to escape following the assault.
According to Deputy Commissioner Chaman, Habib Ahmed Bangalzai, the victim, police official Nizamuddin, was martyred on the spot. He confirmed that the perpetrators were “unidentified armed terrorists.”
The Deputy Commissioner added that the polio team members, who were inside a house administering polio drops to children at the time of the shooting, remained unharmed.
Law enforcement personnel have since cordoned off the locality and initiated a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The deceased officer’s body was transferred to the Civil Hospital Chaman for necessary medico-legal procedures before being released to his family.
