President Asif Ali Zardari today highlighted the critical link between reducing food waste and the daily financial wellbeing of citizens, noting that tackling this issue is essential while households manage tight budgets and persistent concerns over food prices.
In a message commemorating the International Day of Zero Waste, the President called for a comprehensive approach to minimise food loss across the entire supply chain, from production and storage through to distribution and final consumption.
He emphasised that discarded food represents a significant depletion of vital resources, including the water, land, energy, and labour invested in its cultivation and processing.
Given Pakistan”s status as an agrarian economy, President Zardari stressed that special attention must be directed towards mitigating losses that occur between the farm gate and the marketplace.
The President concluded that successfully curbing food wastage necessitates a sustained and collaborative effort involving farms, commercial markets, various institutions, and individual households.
