President Asif Ali Zardari appreciated the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran in Islamabad today in a message, which he termed as a significant moment for regional and global peace.
The President highlighted the devastating effects of the conflict that began in February 2026, which put people in severe hardships and affected global energy supply, trade, and economic stability. He expressed hope that such turmoil will not occur again and urged regional countries to focus on development and prosperity.
Recognizing the importance of diplomatic efforts, President Zardari praised Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Their commitment was crucial in achieving this agreement. Pakistan adopted a principled stance, advocating dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes while maintaining contact with all parties involved.
Furthermore, President Zardari appreciated the leadership of President Donald Trump, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who played their roles in resolving the conflict diplomatically. He also acknowledged the support of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Russia, and China, whose encouragement for dialogue was vital in ensuring peace.
The President urged all relevant individuals to fully implement the memorandum of understanding and work towards a final agreement soon to ensure lasting peace and development. He emphasized that those who end conflicts are the true heroes and expressed confidence that this agreement will provide a strong foundation for regional peace, enabling nations to prioritize economic development, energy cooperation, and the advancement of their citizens.
“War brings nothing but destruction and suffering. Peace is the only path to development,” President Zardari said, affirming Pakistan’s solidarity with its brotherly countries in the collective struggle for peace and prosperity.
