ISLAMABAD: A court in Islamabad on Wednesday handed over senior PTI leader Shahbaz Gill to police on two-day physical remand.

While announcing the reserved verdict, the magistrate court asked the Islamabad Kohsar police to produce Gill again before the court on Friday. According to the written order released by the court, the duty magistrate remarked as per the record provided, the physical remand of Shahbaz Gill was necessary keeping in view the allegations against him. The court also ordered a physical examination of Gill.

The magistrate further stated that a forensic test to match the recorded voice of Gill was also necessary. He ordered the police to inform the court after completing investigation in two days. Earlier, Duty Magistrate Umar Shabbir reserved his ruling on the police’s plea seeking physical remand of Shahbaz Gill which was opposed by the latter’s counsel.

Senior PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was produced before the district and sessions court of Islamabad on Wednesday morning. Duty Magistrate Umar Shabbir heard the petition filed by police seeking physical remand of the PTI leader who has been charged with sedition, inciting the public against state institutions and their heads, and spreading anarchy and hatred.

At the outset of the proceedings, Gill’s counsel opposed the police request seeking his client’s physical remand. However, the police told the magistrate court that they wanted to recover Gill’s mobile phone and the paper on which the hateful speech was written he was delivering during his TV interview with a channel.

Police also told the court that they wanted to investigate at whose behest the TV interview was conducted. After hearing the arguments of both the lawyers, the magistrate court reserved the verdict and announced it later. Islamabad police on Tuesday arrested Shahbaz Gill from Banigala Chowk on charges of sedition and inciting public against state institutions and their heads.
