Punjab Police cracks down on illegal kite flying, over 2,200 arrested

Provincial authorities have detained more than 2,200 individuals this year in a major enforcement campaign against illegal kite flying and the use of metallic string. Officials have confirmed that 2,210 cases have been registered across Punjab for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act.

It was officially stated today that the crackdown is being implemented under a zero-tolerance policy on the instructions of Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. Law enforcement agencies are conducting comprehensive operations across the province to curb this prohibited activity.

The campaign has resulted in the seizure of over 150,000 kites and 3,148 string rolls in a major haul of illegal materials.

Although the ban is strictly enforced throughout Punjab, officials have clarified that an exception for the Basant festival has been made for Lahore. This permission is conditional on specific days and adherence to strict government terms and conditions.

The IG Punjab has also directed the police to take strict action against those involved in the online sale and distribution of metallic string and kites, widening the scope of enforcement efforts.

In a public appeal, law enforcement agencies have asked parents to prevent their children from participating in this dangerous activity. Citizens have been encouraged to demonstrate their civic duty by reporting any incidents of kite flying on the 15 helpline for prompt action.
