Punjab University has announced its plan to engage the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the recovery of funds from 12 teachers who received scholarships for PhD programs abroad but failed to return.
The university administration will also request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior to block the CNICs and passports of these teachers.
In a statement here today, a PU spokesperson revealed that 56 teachers received grants for international PhD studies, but 12 did not fulfill their obligation to return and serve five years at the university. These absconding teachers, who benefited from HEC and PU overseas scholarships, owe millions to the university as per their agreements.
The spokesperson identified several defaulters, including Farah Sattar, Syed Mohsin Ali, and Kiran Ayesha, who owe more than Rs 7 million, Rs 14 million, and Rs 10 million respectively. Others include Rabia Abbas, Khawaja Khurram Khurshid, Shumaila Ishaq, and Dr. Muhammad Usman Rahim, with outstanding amounts ranging from Rs 7.2 million to Rs 16.1 million.
Additional absconders are Salman Aziz, Dr. Seemab Ara Farooqi, Samia Mahmood, Muhammad Nawaz, and Javeria Iqbal, collectively owing substantial sums to the university. The Punjab University has terminated the services of these 12 teachers as part of its corrective actions.
