Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh Ameer, Kashif Saeed Shaikh has warned that the recent judicial resignations are a sign of widespread unease that could create a crisis within the institution, terming the 27th Amendment as “tantamount to an attack on the judiciary.”
Shaikh expressed these views while addressing a meeting of Umerkot’s district office-bearers on Sunday, regarding preparations for an upcoming public gathering. The meeting was also attended by provincial Naib Qayyim Sohail Ahmed Sharq, District Ameer Ijaz Malik, and other party officials.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader stressed that although the constitutional amendment was passed with the consensus of all political parties, the subsequent resignations of judges have made it clear that there is severe unrest among legal professionals and the bench.
He questioned the country’s legislative history, saying that while the rulers have made 27 constitutional amendments, little has been done for the implementation of Sharia. Shaikh argued that the fundamental condition for Pakistan’s existence and stability is the implementation of Islamic law, which he described as a promise made to Allah Almighty.
Stating that no individual or position is above accountability in Islam, Shaikh opined that a planned gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan would prove to be a significant development for the establishment of an Islamic, prosperous Pakistan and the awakening of the Ummah.
