KARACHI: Sindh Government on Thursday decided to establish rehabilitation centers in different areas of the province in a fresh measure to address the menace of rising number of drug addicts.
According to the details, it has been decided to establish rehabilitation centers for drug addicts in Sindh. The establishment of the rehabilitation center will be started from Karachi and these centers will be managed by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). This decision was taken in an important meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput.
Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary Information Abdul Rashid Solangi, Secretary School, Secretary College Education, Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Works Services, officials ANF and others participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, the officials of ANF informed that 201 cases have been registered in the province so far in 2022, in which 194 people have also been arrested. They further informed that 578 Kg Heroin, 10927 KG Hashish, 30 KG Opium and 89 KG Metha have been recovered.
They further informed that 35.5 Acres Poppy Destroyed and 1.500 Kg Doddy seized in various parts of the province. It was decided in the meeting that a media awareness campaign will be launched for the prevention of drugs, for which a 4-member committee was formed under the chairmanship of Secretary Information.
In the meeting, Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that an awareness campaign will be started in media, social media, schools, colleges and universities regarding menace of drugs. The Chief Secretary Sindh directed the Secretary Works and Services to complete the work of rehabilitation centers for drug addicts in Malir and Manghopir by December 1 and hand over the center to ANF.
It was told in the meeting that complaints of drug use have been received in the educational institutions of the province, where ANF has also conducted operations, but many private educational institutions hesitate to cooperate in this regard. In this regard Chief Secretary set up a committee headed by secretary law to prepare a law draft.
