Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s senior leader, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, has stressed the establishment of a joint relief and reconstruction council to expedite the rehabilitation of flood victims and said that a transparent and comprehensive system is necessary to effectively deal with the crisis.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Musarrat Cheema suggested that this new body, formed under the government’s patronage, should include diverse stakeholders. She called for the inclusion of welfare organizations, private sector representatives, and economists to ensure the transparent use of relief funds and to formulate a long-term recovery strategy.
The PTI leader emphasized that those who lost their homes, agricultural lands, crops, and livestock in the devastating floods should not be left alone. The establishment of an empowered council will ensure that the focus remains entirely on the needs of the affected population.
According to Musarrat Cheema, such a council would ensure the swift completion of the rehabilitation process. She also highlighted that the effective use of technology and the direct involvement of representatives of the affected people are indispensable for accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in flood-ravaged areas.
