Concerns are mounting over the open sale of illicit substances in the city, with a prominent political leader warning that the situation has become critically dangerous, jeopardising the future of the younger generation and leading to a significant rise in deaths.
PTI Sindh Vice President Rizwan Niazi articulated deep apprehension today, stressing that a well-organised network for drug trafficking continues to operate unchecked across the metropolis.
The political figure detailed that various areas of Karachi are reportedly experiencing easy access to cannabis, heroin, crystal meth, opium, and other deadly narcotics. This widespread availability is driving a rapid surge in addiction among adolescents and young adults, culminating in increased fatalities and severe health complications.
Mr. Niazi further stated that the pervasive use of intoxicants like drugs and gutka has led to a marked increase in cases of mouth cancer, liver ailments, and other life-threatening illnesses. He described the deteriorating situation as a severe public health crisis demanding immediate attention.
Questioning the efficacy of law enforcement agencies, the PTI leader lamented the apparent absence of effective measures despite the burgeoning reach of drug trafficking syndicates. He highlighted a growing public perception that these criminal enterprises operate without interruption in certain localities, raising grave concerns about institutional performance.
In response to the escalating crisis, the PTI Sindh leadership has called for swift, impartial, and stringent action against the drug and gutka mafia. They specifically urged a focused crackdown around educational institutions and demanded urgent protective steps to shield the younger generation from further devastation.
