Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Nazriyati (JUI-N) in Balochistan today asserted that Quetta has transformed into a sanctuary for criminals during Ramazan, with citizens facing constant threats of armed robbery and theft in broad daylight.
In a joint statement, JUI-N Balochistan Convenor Maulana Qari Mehrullah and General Secretary Haji Habibullah Safi highlighted a severe breakdown in public safety, stating that residents are being dispossessed of their motorcycles, vehicles, and money at gunpoint.
The religious figures squarely blamed law enforcement for the deteriorating situation, claiming the police have completely failed to control both the spate of robberies and the activities of drug peddlers. They accused the government of becoming a mere spectator to the criminals” offences.
This surge in criminal activity has reportedly plunged the populace into a state of anxiety and restlessness, with the leaders emphasising that citizens feel entirely unsafe as their lives, property, and honour are all at stake.
Maulana Mehrullah and Haji Safi contended that the government has not addressed the rampant lawlessness with the required seriousness, leaving the public at the mercy of dacoits. They added that the ongoing insecurity raises serious questions about the administration”s performance, especially given the billions of rupees spent in the name of maintaining order.
The JUI-N representatives concluded that the daily incidents of lawlessness, dacoity, and terrorism have effectively turned Balochistan into a no-go area, and asserted that the government cannot conceal its failed performance behind lofty claims.
