Religious Leaders Unite to Combat Child Abuse, Early Marriages

Religious leaders and scholars from various faiths have underscored the urgent need to address child labour, early marriages, and the physical, sexual, and psychological abuse of minors, calling for unified action to protect vulnerable youth.

The consensus was reached during a consultative meeting in the federal capital today, which focused on enhancing awareness regarding children”s education, protection, and their emotional and mental development.

Presided over by Federal Secretary for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Dr. Syed Ata ur Rehman, the gathering emphasized that the inclusion of faith leaders in these awareness campaigns can produce meaningful and lasting results.

The event, organized in a joint effort with UNICEF and Islamic Relief Pakistan, highlighted a multi-stakeholder approach to tackling these critical social factors.

Dr. Raghib Naeemi, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, informed the participants that following the Zainab case, the council had issued several recommendations concerning legislation and the prevention of harm to children.
