Rights Abuses in Kashmir Highlighted in New Report

Islamabad, A report released today by the Kashmir Media Service has detailed ongoing human rights violations by Indian troops in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and the suppression of civil liberties.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report paints a grim picture of daily life in IIOJK, where residents face frequent raids, cordons, and searches, often resulting in custodial torture and deaths. The document accuses Indian authorities of employing draconian laws to extend the detentions of Kashmiri civilians unjustly and seizing properties to undermine the local population’s resolve for autonomy.

The report also criticizes employment practices in the region, alleging that local Kashmiri Muslims are being systematically removed from their jobs and replaced with non-locals as part of a broader strategy to alter the demographic and cultural landscape of the area. Since the revocation of IIOJK’s special status on August 5, 2019, and the subsequent military lockdown, the situation has markedly deteriorated, setting what the report calls “new records of rights violations.”

The publication calls for international intervention, urging the global community and the United Nations to take substantive actions to resolve the longstanding dispute and provide relief to the people of Kashmir.
