The Metropolitan Corporation Grand Alliance today demanded the immediate payment of salaries to its Christian employees ahead of Easter, highlighting severe hardships and insecure working conditions for municipal staff, particularly female sanitation workers.
In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesperson for the alliance voiced deep concern over the vulnerability of the female workforce, who are facing significant insecurity in their roles.
The group noted that the situation has been compounded by the redeployment of numerous male sanitation workers to other departments, such as the traffic police, the Forest Department, and the Governor’s House, which has caused distress among the remaining employees.
The statement also pointed out that this is a recurring issue, recalling that staff of the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation were previously deprived of government-announced salaries on the occasion of Eid.
The alliance reiterated its primary demands for the government to restore the former status of the Metropolitan Corporation and to provide essential protection for its female sanitation staff.
