Severe cold wave across the country, temperature in Gilgit drops below freezing point

A severe cold wave continues across the country, with severe cold in mountainous areas during the morning and night, while the temperature in Gilgit has dropped to minus four degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast made by the Meteorological Department on Thursday, the weather will remain cold and dry in most parts of the country.

Authorities have also warned of the possibility of smog formation in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Upper Sindh. Furthermore, there is also a possibility of frost in the morning at specific locations including Islamabad, Potohar region, Kashmir, and some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the temperatures recorded early in the morning in major urban centers, Islamabad was at four degrees Celsius, Lahore at eleven, and Karachi at fourteen degrees Celsius. Other recorded temperatures include eight in Peshawar, three in Quetta and Murree, and five degrees Celsius in Muzaffarabad.
