ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has granted permission for female staff members of the National Assembly Secretariat to leave for home before sunset during assembly sessions, emphasizing the collective responsibility of protecting women’s rights and balancing professional and domestic duties.
According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, this initiative has been well-received by several parliamentary figures. Dr. Shahida Rahman, Secretary General of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, expressed her appreciation for the Speaker’s decision, highlighting the Parliament’s commitment to safeguarding women’s rights. She pointed out that this policy will help women manage their work and family obligations more effectively.
MNA Nikhat Shakeel, Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, noted the potential positive impact on child-rearing, considering this an important advancement for women’s lives.
Shaista Pervez Malik, Country Ambassador and MNA for Women Political Leaders, remarked that the initiative should serve as a model for other institutions. She emphasized the need for similar policies in both government and private sectors to support women.
