Government making hectic efforts to provide relief to masses: NA told

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Assembly, which met at Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair, was informed that the government is making hectic efforts to provide relief to the common man keeping in view the current inflationary trends. Responding to the queries of the members during Question Hour in the House today, Minister of State for Finance Aisha Ghaus Pasha said we have enhanced the stipends under Benazir Income Support Program to support the deserving families.

She said, Ramadan package has also been given to provide essential commodities to the people at reduced rates. She said the government is also planning to provide targeted subsidy on petroleum products. The Minister of State said it is our effort to bring down the inflation which has both domestic and international factors. She said we need the cooperation of the provinces to check the price hike.

Aisha Ghaus Pasha said the government is also giving priority to the tax revenue mobilization in view of the current economic challenges and to reduce deficits. She said a committee has been formed to expedite tax cases pending in different courts. Responding to a question, the Minister of State said the government is committed to an interest-free economy. She said a committee has been constituted and deliberations are underway to prepare a transformational plan in this regard.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbassi told the House that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has received data of the houses destroyed in recent floods from the three provinces, while data from two federating units is still awaited.

He said minimum compensation for fully damaged houses has been revised up to five hundred thousand rupees and for partially damaged houses, it has been fixed at two hundred and fifty thousand rupees. Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, Minister of State for Interior Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju said FIA is taking steps to check human trafficking with the cooperation of international organizations.

He said the capacity building of the relevant departments is also being done to deal with this menace. Meanwhile, the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Amendment Bill, 2023 and the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Amendment Bill, 2023 were also laid before the House.

These were laid by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbassi. At the outset, newly elected MNA Muhammad Mohsin Leghari took oath of his office. Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath to him.

PTI Chief doesn’t want elections but selection again: Marriyum

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb says the PTI Chief Imran Khan is not interested in elections in the country, but he wants his selection as Prime Minister again. Addressing a news conference in Lahore, she said the people of Pakistan remember Imran Khan’s tenure as a ‘black chapter in the history of the country.

The information minister said the people are paying the price of Imran’s four year misrule which was marked by corruption, incompetence and inefficiency. She said the PML-N is the only party that revived the national economy in the past and it would again provide relief to the masses by overcoming inflation and unemployment.

President summons NA, Joint Sessions today

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): President Dr Arif Alvi has summoned session of the National Assembly at 12:00 this noon, whereas the Joint Session of the Parliament will also resume at 3:00 pm on Monday. Issues of national importance will be discussed in both the sessions.

Asad Mehmood calls for promotion of tunnelling industry in country

During his visit to Tunnelling Institute of Pakistan in Islamabad, he appreciated the role of the institute and encouraged its officials to actively participate in the tunnelling projects. Govt taking every possible step to facilitate investors: PM

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the government is taking every possible step to facilitate foreign investors. He was talking to a delegation of Reqo Dik Mining Company, headed by its Chief Executive Officer Mark Bristow who called on him in Islamabad on Monday.

While talking to the delegation, the Prime Minister said Pakistan has immense investment opportunities in mining, information technology, energy, and communication and infrastructure sectors. The Prime Minister said the Reqo Dik project will be a game changer for Balochistan that will usher a new era of development in the province.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister directed to establish project support team for the implementation of Reqo Dik project. The Prime Minister was briefed that seventy percent of the workers in Reqo Dik project belongs to Balochistan. It was further informed that a school has been set up by the Reqo Dik Company in cooperation with the Community Development Committee of the area. Along with this, steps will be taken to provide vocational and higher education to the youth of the area so that they can find employment opportunities.

In the briefing, it was further informed that work is in progress regarding the provision of clean drinking water and health facilities in the area. It was also informed that alternative energy is being used in the project. The Prime Minister appreciated the ongoing work of Reqo Dik Mining Company regarding corporate social responsibility and also encouraged the company to work together with the government in establishing Danish Schools in Balochistan.

Parliament’s joint session continues debate on key national issues

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The House resumed discussion on national issues, including law and order and terrorism, economic policy, Jammu and Kashmir Issue, respect for national institutions, China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor, population explosion, Climate Change impact and foreign policy of the country.

PTI Senators are also taking part in the proceedings of the House for the first time since the convening of the Joint Sitting of the Parliament. Participating in the discussion, PTI Leader Shahzad Wasim called for urgent elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per the spirit of the constitution. He criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to delay elections in Punjab.

Media persons present in the parliament’s press gallery staged walk-out to protest against attacks on journalists in the Islamabad Judicial Complex, arrest of Siddique Jan, and non-payment of salaries to media workers by the media houses.

Responding to points raised by the media persons, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf directed the ministry of Interior to look into the matter of attacks on journalists. He further said that the issue of non-payment of salaries will be taken up in the standing committee concerned.

Minister for Communication Maulana Asad Mahmood said the coalition government is committed to serve the nation and take all possible measures to provide relief to masses. He said some elements are spreading chaos and anarchy in the country. He said foreign elements like Brad Sherman and Zalmay Khalilzad are tweeting in favour of PTI Chief Imran Khan. He, however, made it clear that we will not allow foreign agents to harm Pakistan.

Talking about the economic situation in the country, the Minister said Imran Khan pushed Pakistan into an economic quagmire and the coalition government is striving hard to bring financial stability to the country. He also dispelled the impression that the coalition parties are running away from elections. The Joint Sitting has been adjourned to meet again on 10th of the next month at 11 a.m.
