Three libraries in Sindh to be upgraded soon

KARACHI:Three libraries each of Ratodero, Shikarpur and Jacobabad will soon be upgraded and a new demand has also been surfaced to increase halls at Shahnawaz Bhutto memorial Library because of the large number of students.

This was announced by Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh, Director General, Libraries, Culture and Tourism Department, Government of Sindh, after visiting Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Memorial Library here on Tuesday. Shaikh said that 55 libraries which were working on a local basis will soon be taken over by the Culture and Tourism Department as a summary is pending approval with the Sindh chief minister.

During his visit candidates who were studying at the library demanded that more halls be constructed and added to the library where the rush of the students has increased manifold who are preparing for various federal and provincial governments competitive examinations. Shaikh said that during the last three days he has inspected facilities at Jacobabad, Garhi Khero, Shikarpur, Naundero, Ratodero and Kambar libraries where he found an increasing number of students who were studying at the libraries.

He said he is very happy to find that the young educated people of Sindh are striving very hard to make their lives better. He said that the rush of students at the Shahnawaz Bhutto library made me wonder whether it was a college or a library. He said libraries of Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Ratodero will soon be upgraded, repair and renovation work will also be carried out and required facilities will also be provided. He said a new reference hall and girls section will be established in Ratodero library where an adjacent plot has been obtained.

He said that 31 libraries are at the moment working under the Culture Department in the province where internet facilities are also available. He said funds have been received and soon repair and renovation work will be made where needed. He said work is underway to establish a new library in Khairpur Nathan Shah. He said there is no shortage of budget and manpower hence there will be no difficulty to manage these libraries which are to be upgraded.
