Three poachers arrested with 18 poached deer

MITHI:The local wildlife police on Wednesday busted a gang of three poachers during checking at Samaro Road Check-post and recovered 18 deer of rare species from their possession.

The poachers were transporting the 18 deer in a car bearing registration number BLL-645 from Tharparkar to Hyderabad for selling, SHO Khalil Kumbhar of Umerkot Police Station said while talking to the local journalists.

The arrested poachers were identified as Owais Pathan, Zeeshan Shaikh and Kashif Rajput. After registering a case against the poachers, the police handed them along with rescued deer to the local wildlife officials for further action.

Meanwhile, In-charge Game Officer Udhesingh Sodho while talking to media confirmed that police have handed over the poachers and 18 deer.

“We have registered an FOR against the poachers and will produce them in court on Thursday, and the deer will be released in the desert the same day,” he told. rescued deer had bruises on their bodies, which the animals had sustained at the hands of poachers. The Thar deer is one of the endangered species and is at the verge of extinction due to illegal hunting and poaching in Thar desert.

An official of the wildlife department said on condition of anonymity that poaching of animals of rare species continued unabated but they had not enough staff to keep hunters in check in the vast desert area. The frequent droughts and unchecked hunting and poaching had taken a heavy toll on rare species of animals in desert region of Thar.
