Torrential Rains Threaten Urban Flooding Across Sindh

The meteorological office has issued a dire warning as a low-pressure system from Madhya Pradesh, India, is set to bring widespread torrential rains to the region. Starting from the evening of September 6th, Sindh is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, raising concerns over potential urban flooding in low-lying areas such as Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparker, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, and Karachi.

The weather system, anticipated to reach Rajasthan and parts of Sindh by September 6th, will cause strong monsoon currents to penetrate the region, and continue through September 9th with intermittent gaps. Authorities have urged residents and travelers to remain vigilant and updated on the latest weather developments.

Punjab and Islamabad are also on alert as rain with isolated heavy falls is predicted from September 6th to 8th, potentially worsening the situation in areas already affected by floods. In Balochistan, similar weather patterns may trigger flash floods from September 7th to 9th, especially in regions like Dera Ghazi Khan.

In the vulnerable hilly terrains of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir, landslides pose a significant risk, potentially causing road closures and further disruption. The public is cautioned against unnecessary travel and exposure during this period to ensure safety.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Islamabad advises all relevant authorities to maintain a high alert status and implement preventive measures to mitigate the impact of the impending downpour.
