Water level in Indus River is increasing significantly

KARACHI: Amid heavy rainfall, water level in Indus River is increasing significantly, bringing relief to the drying crops.

According to a report, the total flow in country’s rivers was recorded 446,000 cusecs. Of them, 319,000 cusecs water is being released for Sindh and Punjab barrages.

However, ice melting process at glaciers in Skardu and other northern areas was slowed down due to dropping temperature owing to which there was reduction in the water inflow in rivers in northern areas.

In Sindh River, the water inflow at Tarbela is 265,000 cusecs and its outflow is 157,000 cusecs. Irsa said that 2.3 million acre feet water was stored in Tarbela Dam.

Kabul River was in low flood and at Nowshera, the water inflow was recorded 68,000 Cusecs.

In Jhelum River, the water inflow at Mangla is recorded 34,000 Cusecs whereas the outflow is 15,000 cusecs. The water storage in Mangla Dam is 860,000 acre feet at present while the total capacity of the reservoir is 7 MAF.

In Chenab River, the water inflow at Marala is recorded 78,000 Cusecs.

In Gaddu Barrage, the water inflow is recorded 145,000 cusecs while at Sukkur the inflow is recorded 90,000 cusecs. The water inflow in Kotri Barrage is recorded 20,000 cusecs while 4,000 cusecs water is being wasted into sea.
