Syed Jaffar Ali Shah, the newly elected member of the Sindh Bar Council and a Supreme Court lawyer, has announced the launch of a province-wide lawyers’ movement on the issues of the 26th Amendment, corporate farming, and the construction of canals on the Indus River.
Addressing legal professionals for the first time after his election at the District Bar Association on Monday, Shah asserted that the Sindh government used its full administrative power against him during the council’s election. He said that despite this, the government faced a severe defeat, and his supported candidates were successful with a majority in all divisions and districts of Sindh.
Shah declared, “First, the honor of lawyers (black coats) will be restored, then everything else.” He assured that there will be no more corruption in courts and bar associations, and special efforts will be made to address lawyers’ grievances.
He announced that the situation will now be “Dama Dam Mast Qalandar,” signaling an era of decisive action to restore the dignity of the judiciary and legal professionals. Shah also pledged that every move considered against the interests of Sindh will be strongly resisted.
The newly elected representative thanked all the lawyers for their support in the election. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of sweets.
The lawyers present at the gathering gave Mr. Shah a warm welcome, garlanding him with flowers and presenting traditional gifts of Ajrak and Sindhi cap. Other speakers at the event included District Bar Association General Secretary Muhammad Juman Sahito, Supreme Court lawyer Allah Warayo Soomro, Manzoor Hussain Larak, and lawyer Ghazanfar Ali Jatoi.
