Zardari Highlights Mutual Support on Kashmir and One-China Policy on 75th Anniversary of Ties

President Asif Ali Zardari, in a message marking the Chinese New Year, today underscored the strategic depth of Pakistan-China relations on their 75th anniversary, reaffirming Islamabad’s unwavering commitment to the One-China Policy and acknowledging Beijing”s principled backing on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Extending heartfelt greetings to the Chinese people and leadership for the Year of the Horse, the President noted that the year 2026 holds special significance as it commemorates three-quarters of a century since diplomatic ties were formally established in 1951.

President Zardari characterised the relationship as an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” founded on mutual trust and respect. He described the “iron-clad” friendship as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, which has remained steadfast through changing global circumstances.

He drew a historical parallel, recalling that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the last international leader to meet Chairman Mao Zedong, a moment he said symbolised the strategic understanding that has guided the nations” relations ever since.

The President emphasised Pakistan and China’s consistent support for each other on core national interests, highlighting Beijing”s stance that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute be resolved peacefully in accordance with the United Nations Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Reflecting on his personal engagement, Mr Zardari mentioned his frequent visits to China during his previous presidential tenure from 2008 to 2013, which he said helped deepen mutual trust. He also noted two recent visits and expressed his intention to travel to China again soon to build on the positive momentum.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was lauded as a transformative initiative under the Belt and Road framework. The President affirmed Pakistan”s dedication to realising the full potential of CPEC for shared prosperity as it enters its next phase.

Praising the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, Mr Zardari acknowledged China”s constructive role in promoting global peace and development, including through platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which contributes to regional stability.

The close cooperation in defence and security was also cited as a significant contributor to regional peace, reflecting a shared commitment to safeguarding common interests and promoting a stable environment.

Concluding his message, President Zardari extended his best wishes for health and success to the Chinese people, expressing hope that the Year of the Horse would bring greater achievements in trade, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges for both nations.
