(CITY) Call to impart education to young generation

KARACHI:,,, Vice-Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Prof Dr Vali Uddin, said on Thursday that there is a need to create awareness and impart education to the young generation for developing and training human resources to obtain benefits from space technology and motivate the youth to envision and create space applications for service to humanity. However, this is not possible unless space science is promoted among the youth as a career of high repute.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the space week program at the campus. Department of Mathematics organized a series of international and national seminars to celebrate World Space Week. Speakers of the seminars included Dr. Olugbenga Ogunmodimu, (The Manchester Metropolitan University, UK), Dr. Umit Deniz Goker, (National Defense University Istanbul, Turkey), Professor Waqar Haider Bokhari, (University of Peshawar), Dr. Rashid Kamal Ansari, (Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan) and Dr. Asma Zaffar, (Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan).

Addressing the closing ceremony of the space week program, Vice Chancellor Dr Vali Uddin said that it is for the first time that Sir Syed University had joined this important forum with collaborated partners and conducted activities regarding Space Week to explore the venues how space science/technology is beneficial for humans.

“We intend to explore the new venues for space research in collaboration with the SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), focusing on research towards the issues related to space, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin added.

SSUET used the famous Russian Batik Artist Victoria Nikulana’s painting SATURN as the mascot of the SSUET celebrations of the World Space Week.

Earlier Chairperson Mathematics Department, Prof. Dr. Rashid Kamal Ansari, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor including the guest from Russia, and gave a brief account of the space-related research taken by the university.

At the end of the ceremony, Chairperson Mathematics Department, Prof. Dr. Rashid Kamal Ansari, presented the photograph of the painting SATURN to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin. The painting, contributed by the Russian Batik Painter Victoria Nikulina, was used as mascot of the SSUET celebrations of the World Space Week.
