Canal breach near Khairpur floods crops

KHAIRPUR:crops standing on hundreds of acres were submerged when Jamshed Canal developed a 20-feet-wide breach on Saturday in Pir Jo Goth in district Khairpur Miris.

The gushing water flooded standing crops including cotton, fruit and others. A fish farm was also flooded by the breach water. The relevant irrigation authorities and other administration staff could not reach the site of breach on time.

Villagers told media that the canal developed a 20-foot-wide breach in village Ramzan Brohi that inundated vast area of the agriculture land.

They said that irrigation authorities could not reach the site of breach on time due to their negligence. “This kind of negligence is common in Sindh as they never reach on time to avert losses,” they said.

They demanded of Sindh irrigation department and other authorities to compensate for the crop losses as soon as possible as they don’t have any other source of income.
