Car thieves remanded in police custody for five days

KARACHI: A District and Sessions Court on Tuesday granted physical remand of three accused involved in car theft for five days to police.

The Anti Car Lifting Cell had arrested three accused. Rustam Ali, Mohammad Shahzad and Imtiaz Ali from QalandriChowk on Monday in a raid.

The Investigation Officer produced them before the court of judicial magistrate (Central) on Tuesday, and told the court that the accused were involved in car-theft.

The IO said the gang of car theft was consisted on eight members and they used to snatch and steal cars from Karachi and sell them on fake documents in South Punjab and Peshawar.

He said during this year, they stole 50 cars from District Central, Karachi alone. The gang was also wanted to Punjab Police in robbery and cars theft cases.

These five accomplices, Nadeem, Azeem Sindhi, SherBaqir, Riaz Ahmed and Irfan Kashmiri are still at large.

The IO requested to the court to grant the physical remand of the three accused for further investigation.

However, the Judicial Magistrate accepted the request and handed them over to police on physical remand for five days, directing the IO to produce him again along with a progress report at the next hearing.
