Karachi:The ruling elite is least concerned about the plights of workers, saving attending photo sessions of the May 01, and our parliamentarians are doing nothing for the rights of labors, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Altaf Shakoor, here on Wednesday.
Talking to the leaders of PDP Labor Wing here at Pasban Public Secretariat Gulshan e Iqbal on the occasion of the Labor Day, he said till the real representatives of common man, labors, Haris and youths reach the corridors of power, the realization of their rights would remain a distant dream. He said when the real representatives of these downtrodden people reach parliament, only then a proper legislation for the rights of labors would be possible. He said the prevailing system or much talked about presidential system would not serve the interests of labors and common man.
Altaf Shakoor said that today Pakistani workers face more problems than the workers of Chicago a century back. He said a lot of rallies and conferences are held on the Labor Day, but nothing practical is done for the welfare of labors and their families. He said the workers of Chicago gave great sacrifices for labor rights, but their struggle was finally defeated by capitalism. He said in Pakistan the families of workers even do not get two square meals daily. Their problems and woes are growing with every passing day. He said the PTI government is bent to starve workers and their children due to its wrong economic policies that have already pulled down the growth rate to less than 2.8 percent from 7 percent.
Altaf Shakoor said that the ruling elite is busy in playing golf or attending photo sessions and they have no time to redress the wounds of the poor masses. He said the three major political parties of Pakistan have already disappointed labors, peasants and youths. He said the poor workers are now even robbed of the last luxury of using mobile phones by re-imposing the withdrawn taxes on cell phone cards.
PDP Karachi chapter general secretary Sardar Zulfiqar, Imdad Hussain, Hamid Siddiqui, Sardar Javed, Umar Siddiqui, Mutalib Khan and others were also present.
