Sindh achieves 105% handsome tax collection target

KARACHI: Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has achieved 105% tax collection target during fiscal year 2017-18 and recovered Rs 66009.285 million in terms of various taxes while during last fiscal year 2016-17, Rs 57748.494 million were recovered.

This was informed by Provincial Caretaker Minister, Excise and Taxation Mushtaq Ahmed Shah while presiding over a meeting of Excise and Taxation Department Sindh at his office on Tuesday. Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Aijaz Ahmed Mahesar, Director Generals Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh and Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui also attended the meeting.

Shaikh told that Rs 7004.479 million were recovered in Motor Vehicles Tax, Rs 51854.258 million in Infrastructure Cess Tax and Rs 363.811 million in professional tax.

He added: “Rs 177.581 million in terms of cotton fee, Rs 1936.515 million in property tax and Rs 51.662 million in entertainment duty were recovered, while remaining amount was recovered in terms of various other heads.”

Shah, while appreciating the services of the officers and officials, said that he was very much pleased to see the efforts of the officers concerned that they had got 105% target of recovery of the taxes because tax collection was an important component of the government and without achieving the target, they could not make progress in the right direction. He was sure that in coming years, they would continue to work with such great spirit.
