Sindh to deploy 4,706 personnel for Eid Milad-un-Nabi security

KARACHI: The Sindh police will deploy a force of 4,706 personnel for the security on October 10, 2020 on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, said IG Sindh Mushtaq Mahar at a high-level meeting on law and order here at CM House on Saturday.

The IG police briefed the chief minister that Eid Milad-un-Nabi was falling on October 10, 2020. The main procession would be taken out from Memon Masjid at 12 noon.

He added that another procession would start at 12 noon from Mereweather Tower and would terminate at Arambagh Masjid. The third procession would be taken out at 1.30 pm from Chhutan Shah Mazar and would terminate at Purani Numaish. In this way, total six processions would be taken out in different areas and would terminate at the spots decided already.

The IGP said that 947 processions and 902 Mehfils of Eid Milad-un-Nabi would be held all over Sindh and they would be provided proper security.

Chup Tazia: The Chup Tazia event would take place on October 26, 2020. He said on the day a procession would take place at Nishtar Park and would terminate at Imambargah Irania Hussainia, Kharadar. The procession would be given security by a force of 8000 policemen. Another procession would start from Qasr-e-Musayyab, Rizvia Society and would terminate at Shah-e-Najaf. Some 1200 policemen would provide them security.

The meeting was informed that 30 Chup Tazia processions would be held all over Sindh, of them nine had been declared as most sensitive, five sensitive and 16 normal.

Crime situation: The IG police sharing crime situation data said that in 2019, 423 killings were reported in the city while in 2020, it was recorded at 414 which showed a difference of nine cases. In 2019, 12 target killing cases were registered and in 2020, during the same period, eight cases were reported that showed a reduction of four cases.

Kidnapping for ransom cases were recorded at 31 in 2019 and 29 in 2020, while extortion cases in 2019 were 107 and 116 in 2020. This showed an increase of nine cases. House robberies in 2019 were 242 in 2019 and 200 in 2020 that showed a reduction of 42 cases, the meeting was told.

In 2019, 1,404 four wheelers were snatched and such number came down by 49 vehicles in 2020 when 1,355 snatching cases were recorded. The two wheelers snatched in 2019 were 23,141 which increased in 2020 by 5,264 cases. In 2019 15,058 mobile phones were snatched in 2019 and in 2020, the figure went up to 16765.

The chief minister directed IG police to develop a mobile application on which complainants of mobile/ car, bike and other snatching and robberies’ complaints could be filed at once without visiting the police stations. “This will help the police to activate their force all over the city to arrest the criminals,” he said.

The chief minister was told that all over Sindh target killing had come down by 33.3 percent, murders by two percent, extortion cases by 14 percent.

Operation against dacoits: The chief minister lauded the professionally launched operation against dacoits in the kacha area of Khairpur and Larkana. It was a fabulous performance of the police of both the districts, he said.

IG Mushtaq Maher said that the operation was launched in the kacha areas of Baradi Jatoi, falling in the jurisdiction of Khairpur and Larkana police. In the operation, six notorious dacoits were killed, including Pathan alias Patho Narejo and Iqbal alias Iqoo Narejo who were carrying Rs2 million head money each.

The police recovered one anti-aircraft gun, two G-3 rifles, one SMG, one rocket launcher with shells and huge amounts of ammunition. At this Corps Commander Karachi Lt General Humayun Aziz said that he would get the anti-air craft gun and other weapons recovered from the dacoits examined by his experts just to ascertain from where the dacoits were obtaining the weapons. The chief minister said that he had appreciated the SSP Khairpur for launching a successful operation against the dacoits during his visit to Sukkur.

Drive against Narcotics: The meeting was informed that during 2020, 8081 raids had been conducted on drug dens and 12,788 accused were arrested by registering 10,427 FIRs. The police recovered 7173.959 kg hashish, 62.178 kg heroin, 23.20 Ice, 170.288 kg opium and 195,606 liters of liquor.

The police also arrested 6,383 accused for manufacturing gutka and mainpuri and confiscated 625,153 kg kutka and manpuri and sealed 66 manufacturing units. In the drive, 5,314 FIRs have been registered, the IG said.

The chief minister urged the police to continue their drive against drug peddlers. “This is a crusade to save our new generation from the menace,” he concluded.
