Sports: National Games Torch hosted at Lahore College for Women University

Karachi:Lahore College for Women University students in Lahore on Thursday received the Torch of the 33rd National Games, which has been travelling across the country, with great enthusiasm.

Punjab Olympic Association Secretary Khwaja Idrees Haider handed the torch to college’s Director Sports Humaira Mughal, who along with college’s international athletes Sameera Sattar, Saman, Diana Baig, Nida Akram, Minahil Ahmed, Ghazala Aamir, Maria Nazeer, Shehrish Maqsood, Asima Akram and Ghazala Siddiq circled the college’s ground.

The students also sang national anthem as a part of the ceremony along with Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Secretary Khalid Mehmood, Chairman Torch Committee Mohammad Abid Qadri, POA Secretary Finance Mohammad Shafiq, Khwaja Idrees and Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) Chairperson Tehmina Asif.

On the occasion, Khalid Mehmood said that sports along with studies play important role in helping student establish a strong character.

He added Olympic and Asian Games torches travel to all participating countries and this national games torch also has the same important message of Olympic Movement and is a symbol of unity and friendship.

He congratulated College’s Vice Chancellor Professor Prof. Doctor Bushra Mirza, Principal Mahrukh Bukhari and Humaira Mughal for having the honor to host the national games torch.

While addressing the students, he said that education plays an important role in the contemporary sports world.

He further said that it is the vision of POA President Arif Hasan to portray a peaceful image of the country throughout the world.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Abid Qadri said that good heath is very important for intelligence and good heath comes when people go to grounds to play sports. He praised Lahore College for Women University for organizing the most impressive ceremony while hosting the national games torch so far.

The national games torch will be taken to WAPDA House in Lahore today (Friday) where Chairman WAPDA Muzammil Hussain will receive the torch from POA officials. A formal ceremony will be hold latter in the evening at WAPDA Sports Complex.
