Two children die of dengue fever at NICH

KARACHI:Dengue viral fever has claimed lives of two children at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), taking the death toll from this mosquito-borne disease to 32 since Jan 01, 2019.

A three-month Moosa son of Iran resident of Korangi was shifted to the NICH with high grade fever and later tested dengue positive. He died due to dengue-related complications on Thursday.

Similarly, a three-year old Taimoor, son of Hashim, resident of Bilal Colony was brought to the NICH five days ago with fever and died during treatment with suspected diagnosis of dengue/ hepatitis.

A total 32 people have died due to dengue fever in government and private sector healthcare facilities of the city this year so far.

Spokesman Prevention and Control Program for Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, while talking to PPI, said no any hospital has confirmed death of two children due to dengue fever as yet.

He informed that 199 more dengue fever cases were detected across the Sindh province in last 24 hours, out of them 178 were reported in Karachi and 15 in other districts.

In November, a total of 1,198 dengue positive cases have emerged cross the province; out of them 1,084 are confirmed from Karachi and 114 from other districts.

In 2019, a total of 10,752 dengue cases were detected in Sindh province so far out of them 10,060 in Karachi and 692 in other districts.
