According to a statement from the Press Information Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, in recent days, twelve units of the Hurriyat Conference have withdrawn from the Kashmir independence movement. These units have accepted the Indian constitution within a span of two weeks.
Before Jammu Kashmir Mass Movement, the leaders of the Islamic Political Party and Muslim Democratic League had also accepted the Indian constitution. Neelofer Akbar, wife of Hizbul Mujahideen’s founding commander Zafar Akbar Bhat, has also decided to join the Indian mainstream. Zafar Akbar Bhat is being held in custody on charges of taking money from Kashmiri students for medical college admissions.
Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir also participated in Indian elections but faced defeat. Following this, twelve more pro-Pakistan affiliation parties have declared loyalty to India. Several key leaders of the Hurriyat Conference Ali Geelani group have declared loyalty to India and have distanced themselves from the Hurriyat Conference.
On the other hand, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik is imprisoned in Tihar Jail and refuses to negotiate any deals with the Indian government. Other JKLF leaders have also reiterated their commitment not to pledge loyalty to India.
