ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed and other Judges of the Supreme Court have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Justice Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, former Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan.

They have extended their heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to members of the bereaved family of the departed soul, said a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Saturday. They prayed to Almighty Allah to shower His blessings upon the departed soul and to give patience to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity (Ameen).

ISLAMABAD: Thirty-six more people died of Coronavirus, while 935 fresh positive cases of the infection have been reported in the country over the last 24 hours.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 46,842 tests of the infection were conducted while positivity ratio remained one point nine percent. The death toll due to Covid-19 in the country has now reached 22,188.

(Pakistan to not allow any country to use its soil for terrorism, subversive activities: Minister)

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has said that Pakistan would not allow any country to use its soil for terrorism and subversive activities.

Talking to a private news channel, Farrukh Habib said Pakistan has rendered supreme sacrifices in war against terrorism to eliminate it completely. He said the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has recognized Pakistan’s progress and efforts to come out of its grey list.

He said Pakistan was included in grey list during the tenures of previous governments both Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz as they did not make any proper legislation in that regard. The Minister said the incumbent government has done a remarkable work and efforts made to address multi-challenges faced by the country for combating financing of terrorism, besides improving the national economy.

(Countrywide survey underway to determine beneficiaries of various Ehsaas programs: Dr Sania)

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Poverty Alleviation, Dr Sania Nishtar has said a survey is in progress across the country to determine the beneficiaries of various Ehsaas programs.

Talking to newsmen in Lahore on Saturday, she said under the Ehsaas umbrella, different programs have been launched for the socio-economic uplift of the downtrodden and weaker segments of the society.

She said 95 percent of Ehsaas Programme survey has been completed until now to enroll the underprivileged people to bring them under a social safety net. Dr Sania said the process of Ehsaas survey is impartial and based on merit without any political influence, as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

(No room to keep Pakistan in grey list after implementation of 26 action plans of FATF: FM)

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said there is no room to keep Pakistan in grey list after it has implemented 26 out of 27 action plans of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

In a statement on Saturday, he said it has to be determined whether the FATF is a technical forum or a political one. He said it also needs to be looked into whether this forum is being used for political purposes.

He said some powers desire to keep the sword of FATF hanging over Pakistan. He said the FATF itself has accepted that Pakistan has implemented 26 out of 27 action plans whereas significant progress has been made on the 27th one. The Foreign Minister made it clear that whatever steps Pakistan took were in its own interests. He said it is in our interest to stop money laundering and terror financing.

(President calls for effective measures to curb drug usage and its illicit trafficking)

ISLAMABAD: In his message on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Dr Arif Alvi said effective measures to curb drug use and its illicit trafficking are a top priority of the government of Pakistan.

He said today we reaffirm our commitment to eliminate drug trafficking as it poses a serious threat to public health. The President said we must fulfill our collective responsibility to stop the illicit drug trade through joint efforts. He said it is a great honor for Pakistan that the international community has recognized and appreciated it’s (Pakistan’s) role and commitment in the fight against drug trafficking.
