Khushhali Bank’s launches skills program for Mirpurkhas women

MIRPURKHAS: Khushhali Microfinance Bank partnered with the Sindh Graduates Association (SGA) has launched a skills-development program for women in Mirpurkhas.

According to the bank’s information on Monday, the training program includes a complete tailoring-course for women as well as informative sessions on financial literacy to impart knowledge and understanding of financial concepts along with banking products and services.

The program aims to empower the women and enable them to earn sustainable livelihoods, raise their standards of living, and understand the value of saving money and investing in their family’s future.

The participating women will be taught to realize their irrefutable role in the well-being of their household, in case their families are faced with poverty. If women are empowered, they can achieve a greater degree of self-reliance and economic prosperity within their families, while raising their children with a better quality of life.

The President of Khushhali Microfinance Bank, Ghalib Nishtar, stated: Our Skill-based training programs are a progressive step towards empowering underprivileged women, inspiring them to be independent and generate sufficient incomes to support their families.

Through these series of training programs, Khushhali Microfinance Bank is making direct contributions towards the achievement of United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goals #4 and #8.

Indian Ocean region witnessing geopolitical changes: Naval Chief

LAHORE: Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, visited Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and addressed the course participants of 51st PN Staff Course. On arrival at War College, the Naval Chief was received by Commandant PN War College Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan.

While addressing the course participants, Chief of the Naval Staff highlighted evolving geo-strategic milieu and its interplay with prevalent security dynamics focused on maritime security challenges.

The Admiral emphasized that Indian Ocean region is witnessing geopolitical changes of seismic nature and it adds to the responsibilities of Pakistan Navy. While focusing on threat perception, the Naval Chief underscored Pakistan Navy’s capabilities to deal with this paradigm shift in combating traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

Naval chief appraised upon various initiatives and developmental plan in line with his vision for Pakistan Navy to be a formidable regional maritime power. Chief of the Naval Staff also advised the course participants to instill Pakistan Navy’s core value of faith, character, courage and commitment in their noble and demanding profession and draw inspiration from true Islamic values and Ideology of Pakistan.

Earlier, a panel of course participants presented the Research Paper. The Admiral appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Navy War College for inculcating professional staff and military training to officers of Pakistan Navy, Sisters Services and friendly countries for assuming future key Command and Staff appointments.

Two coal miners injured in landslide

HARNAI: Two coal miners sustained injuries in a land slide in a coal mine in Tehsil Shahrug of district Harnai in Balochistan province on Monday.

According to rescue sources, the landslide happened in PMDC lease area of Shahrug, resultantly, two miners sustained injuries. The trapped persons were retrieved from the debris of collapsed mine by the staff of the office of Inspector Mines, Shahrug, PMDC Shahrug and coal miners of the collapsed mine.

The injured were identified as Shah Namaz and Muhammad Tahir, residents of Swat. They were shifted to a Shahrug hospital for treatment and were later referred to Quetta for further treatment.

Bandits loot Rs1 million from Gujrat store

GUJRAT: Four armed men looted Rs1 million cash from a general store in Gujrat on Monday.

According to a report, four dacoits entered a general store on Sargodha Road in Gujrat, looted Rs1 million cash and fled to unknown destination. On information, police rushed to the scene and started search for the bandits looting general store.

Locals of the area expressed their concerns over the rising dacoity incident in Gujrat, saying that the police and other authorities were failed to control crime. They also came down hard on the authorities concerned for their negligence to maintain law and order, adding that their indifference to control crime had turned the district a hub of criminal activities.

Durrani shocked over hate atmosphere in LB polls

LARKANA: Sindh Assembly speaker and acting governor Agha Siraj Durrani said Monday that local bodies election is a love affair which is held among the various communities but he saw a hate among the communities yesterday (Sunday) which is very astonishing for which he expressed his grief.

He was talking to newsmen at Garhi Khuda Bux where he reached along with his supporters to offer prayers at the graves of Bhutto leaders after winning LB polls in Garhi Yasin Taluka of Shikarpur district.

Durrani said that the administration provided its own security but in some areas, they failed to provide security because the area was too large and security would have been better, had the police been called from other districts. He was referring to the wrath of the people he faced in Fateh Muhammad Jaffery village near Garhi Yasin video of which had also become viral on social media.

He said that NAB was trying to keep him in jail but he was still under custody. He said that the NAB administration had become so dirty that even its officers will not be seen in the coming days, Inshallah, because they had committed so much highhandedness to the people that they would escape.

He said they were watching the new NAB law that had been passed. Durrani announced that he would soon file a case against the ‘Thug of Delhi’ who filed a false petition against him. NAB’s newly created law had been returned by the President of Pakistan, which would itself become a law after 14 days for which a notification had also been issued, the provincial assembly Speaker added. He said that three years had passed but the NAB could not prove anything against him.

Gilgit-Baltistan unveils annual budget

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Finance Minister Javed Manwa unveiled the annual budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 with a total outlay of over Rs119.3 billion in the assembly on Monday.

The deficit has been shown in the proposed annual budget is Rs9 billion. The budget proposed allocation of Rs10 billion for wheat subsidy and Rs61.4 billion for ongoing expenditures while Rs47.8 billion have been allocated for new development schemes. Finance Minister Javed Manwa announced a 15 per cent increase in salaries of all government employees and also proposed an ad hoc relief allowance for them.

GB Finance Minister Javed also announced 15 per cent DRA of the basic salary for the government employees who do not receive any special allowance. For the Grade 20 officers in Gilgit Baltistan, the finance minister also recommended paying 25 per cent DRA of the basic salary from 2017 to July 1, 2022.

Maryam to hold conventions in various constituencies

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Monday decided to hold convention in different constituencies ahead of the July 17 by-elections in Punjab’s 20 constituencies.

The seats fell vacant after Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-seated 25 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for voting for Hamza Shahbaz in election for Punjab Chief Minister. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also become active after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) launched a campaign where by-elections are scheduled to be held on July 17.

Sources said that the PML-N vice president will meet stakeholders in constituencies where the party candidate’s position would be weak. She will visit different constituencies on the directions of former PM and party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

On the other hand, Punjab CM Hamza Shahbaz has also constituted a monitoring cell for the by-polls and senior party leaders have been assigned duties in Lahore and other constituencies. Sources further said that the Punjab CM is not likely to participate in the workers’ convention. Hamza Shahbaz said that the competition is tough but the PML-N will emerge victorious.
