Two Pakistan Army soldiers martyred in Dir bomb blast

RAWALPINDI: Two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in a bomb explosion in Dir district.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR on Sunday, an improvised explosive device exploded as the security forces personnel passed by in general area Barawal of Dir District. Resultantly, Sepoy Sajid Ali (age 30 years and resident of Kotli, Azad Kashmir) and Sepoy Adnan Mumtaz (age 32 years, resident of Poonch, Azad Kashmir) embraced shahadat (martyrdom).

Following the incident, the security forces launched an operation to clear the area and eliminate any terrorists present in the region. The ISPR statement further said that the Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers will not go unpunished.

First electric car unveiled in Pakistan

KARACHI: The country’s first electric car was unveiled on Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day in Karachi on Sunday.

According to details, the echo-friendly Pakistani car named Noor-E75 has been developed under the auspices of the Dice Foundation. DICE Foundation Chairman Dr Khursheed Qureshi while talking to the media said it is an eco-friendly electric car and a proud achievement of Pakistani engineers.

He said it has 5-seat and 5-door. With the AC, the electric car is equipped with a 35-kilowatt battery that will be charged in just 7 to 8 hours, he added. Dr Khurshid Qureshi further informed that the Pakistani electric car will run 210 kilometres on a single charge and will hit the roads in 2024.Mazar.

Quaid-e-Azam created Pakistan with political wisdom: CM

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Sunday that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah created Pakistan with his political wisdom and farsightedness and now as a responsible nation, we have to protect it and strengthen it politically and economically.

This he said while talking to the media along with acting Governor Sindh Agha Siraj Durrani at Mazar-e-Quaid which he visited to pay homage to the father of the nation on the eve of the 75th anniversary of independence.

The CM said that some political orphans have tried to create unrest in the country by advancing their baseless narrative, but the people of this country are politically aware and united under the banner of the national flag. “We all have to work hard for the development of this country,” he said.

To a question, Mr Shah said that Karachi was originally a well-planned city with natural waterways and storm water drains but unfortunately with the passage of time all the natural waterways turned into housing schemes and encroachments appeared along the storm drains. He added that these were the main reasons that disposal of rainwater became a challenge.

The CM said that his government has worked hard to restore the storm water drains of the city and their proper desilting has enabled them to dispose of rainwater. “We are still working on resolving the drainage issue for good,” he said.

Replying to a question, the chief minister said that the heavy rainfall has damaged the road network all over Sindh. “We have allocated Rs1 billion for the reconstruction of dilapidated roads of the city and more funds are being arranged to repair the sewerage system,” he said.

Shah said that climate change has caused heavy rains. “This year, we have received unprecedented heavy downpours in July and still the monsoon is in progress,” he said and added our drainage system was not designed to cater to such heavy rains and now we were planning to redesign or improve our overall drainage system.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister along with the acting Governor laid a floral wreath on the Mazar of the father of the nation and offered dua. He also recorded his impressions in the visitor’s book opened at the Mazar. The chief minister and Governor performed a flag hoisting ceremony at the Mazar.

SMBBMU celebrates Pakistan Day

LARKANA: Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) organized a Pakistan Day ceremony in Chandka Medical College (CMC) on Sunday in connection with the 75th Diamond Jubilee celebrations which was participated by students and employees of the college wearing Pakistani shirts in the event. She claimed that she has made the university a university for which she appreciated the efforts of her team.

Honorary Guest Commissioner Larkana Gahanwer Ali Leghari said that first of all we have to understand what was the philosophy behind the creation of Pakistan and under what ideology this country came into existence. He said that false slogans have been given to the youth under the Fifth Generation war, but one has to think that people from their own province are sitting in Sindh from the important administrative positions to the lower positions, then the false tunes of “Istehsal” should be stopped, Leghari added.

Two die in road accident near Loralai

LORALAI: Two women died while sixteen others, including women and children, sustained injuries in a road accident in district Loralai of Balochistan province on Sunday.

According to levies force, over speeding passenger wagon turned turtle on Dera Road area in district Loralai, resultantly, two women namely Manu Bibi and Ujra Bibi died while sixteen others, including women and children, sustained injuries.

The bodies and injured were rushed to Loralai hospital for completion of codal formalities and treatment, respectively. The bodies were handed over to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities while the injured were being treated. Further investigation was being conducted by the concerned authorities, however, names of the injured could not be ascertained till filing this report.

Pakistan flag hoisted in Paris on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: A flag hoisting ceremony was held at Pakistan Embassy in Paris to celebrate the Independence Day of Pakistan here this morning.

Charge d’Affaires Muhammad Amjad Aziz Qazi raised the Pakistani flag to the tune of the national anthem in the presence of members of the Pakistani community, Embassy officials and their families.

Messages of President of Pakistan, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out on the occasion, says a press release received here today from Paris. In his remarks Charge d’Affaires congratulated the members of the Pakistani community on the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Pakistan and said that despite the challenges, Pakistan is developing as a modern democratic state with a vibrant civil society.

Pakistan, he said, is making strides in all spheres of life including industry, science and technology as well as in the fields of art and culture. Mr. Qazi mentioned that Pakistan is proud to be the seventh nuclear power capable of defending itself through its world’s best armed forces. In addition to making progress in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure development and textiles, Pakistan has also shown its great strength in the realm of sports.

Women of Pakistan are being empowered to strengthen their role in all important fields, he added. Qazi regarded overseas Pakistanis as an asset for the country and lauded the positive role played by the Pakistani community in France in all realms of the society.

The event included a drawing competition among Pakistani children as well as a cultural program in which Pakistan’s national songs were sung and guests were treated with traditional Pakistani food. The chancery building was decorated with pictures from Pakistan. On the occasion, the Embassy also arranged an exhibition of the original artwork of a Pakistani artist, Ms. Xandri Noir.

While inaugurating the exhibition Charge d’Affaires appreciated the uniqueness of her work and said that Pakistani artists have always found appreciation from within the country and abroad. A cake was cut in connection with the diamond jubilee celebrations and prayers were made for Pakistan’s prosperity.

President says freedom from British achieved after intense struggle

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that Pakistan was an independent nation and we achieved our freedom from the British after an intense struggle and our people won’t submit to anyone in future. The President also underlined that inclusion of girls in the national mainstream was imperative for development of the country.

Addressing a ceremony, in connection with 75th Independence Anniversary Celebrations, along with First Lady Samina Arif Alvi at Kashana, a shelter home for the destitute and orphaned girls, in Rawalpindi today, he said that our children are the future of Pakistan.

He said our leader Quaid-e-Azam always emphasized the role of women in the country’s development. Highlighting the significance of taking care of orphans in Islam, the President appreciated the institute for providing facilities of food, residence and education. He said Muslim society always stressed on taking good care of deserving children and orphans.

Dr. Arif Alvi said it was the responsibility of the state to provide adequate opportunities to children for education, moral training and employment. He advised girls to work hard to acquire education. Emphasizing on character building, he asked girls to speak truth, respect teachers and elders. Recalling sacrifices of our forefathers in the Pakistan movement, the President said that millions of people died during independence movement.

The President urged the need to avoid backbiting (Gheebat), saying that fake news and disinformation spread rapidly on social media and younger generation needed to be educated to distinguish between fake news and real news. President and First Lady also participated in a cake cutting ceremony. Later, First Lady Samina Alvi distributed gift packs among girls.
