Lahore, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab Ehsaas Program Chairperson Dr Sania Nishtar met with Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and former federal minister Moonis Elahi at the Chief Minister’s Office. In the meeting, it was decided to expand the scope of the Ehsaas Program in Punjab.

Approving the increase in the monthly subsidy per family under the Ehsaas Ration Discount Program, the CM noted that under the Ehsaas Ration Discount Program, deserving families will be able to buy flour, ghee and pulses at 40% cheaper from the market. He ordered the early launch of the Ehsaas Ration Discount Program.

While approving the doubling of the per capita amount of food for children, girls and elderly living in welfare institutions managed by the social welfare department the CM said that in order to improve the quality and quantity of food items in welfare institutions, he has increased the per capita amount of food for the residents and, by increasing the per capita amount of food, such people will get quality and abundant food.

Ehsaas Bill will be presented in the Punjab Assembly soon, he added. It was decided to introduce welfare projects to raise the standard of living of the people of the flood-affected areas. Scholarships will also be given to pregnant women to prevent stenting.

While directing the preparation of a new housing policy for special government employees, the CM said that a 5% hardship quota will be allocated under the housing allotment policy for special government employees while a quota will also be introduced for special people in the Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation. 50 crore rupees will be allocated to subsidize special persons in housing societies, he cited. Sania Nishtar gave a briefing about the progress of welfare projects under the Punjab Ehsaas Programme. Chairman P and D, finance secretary and others were also present.

They expressed these views in their separate messages on the occasion of 74th death anniversary of Quaid-E-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The speaker said that the country could be set on the path of progress and prosperity only by following the guiding principles of the Quaid-E-Azam, “Unity, Faith and discipline.” He urged all political parties to set aside their differences and work collectively for the betterment of the country.

On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani said that the establishment of a state under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam was a unique event in the history of the world. He further said that the Quaid-e-Azam single-handedly fought with the British and the Hindus and won the country by his strong arguments. He said that we could lead this country on the path of development only by following the guidelines of Quaid-i-Azam.

CM assents important decisions in the meeting of the cabinet standing committee on finance and development 

Lahore, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):The second meeting of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development was held today in the Chief Minister’s Office under the chair of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.

In the meeting presided over by Parvez Elahi, it was announced to increase the conveyance allowance for the blind, dump and other disabled employees. It was approved to increase the conveyance allowance for disabled government employees from 2 thousand rupees to 6 thousand rupees.

The upgradation of posts of music teachers and Braille teachers including disabled employees was also approved. In the meeting, the extension of 3 months in the employment period of 664 disabled daily wages employees was approved as well.

Chief Minister Pervez Elahi directed the formulation of a comprehensive policy to permanently solve the problem of disabled daily wage employees and in this context, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Provincial Finance Minister Mohsin Laghari to devise a policy.

The Chief Minister directed that the committee should present its recommendations in the next meeting and the Secretary Special Education Dept. should visit departmental institutions and submit a report. Disabled employees should be given postings at institutions near their native areas.

In the meeting, it was approved to give one month’s basic salary as a risk allowance to the staff of Rescue 1122 and rich tributes were paid to the staff of Rescue 1122 engaged in the rescue activities and rehabilitation of the victims in the flood-affected areas. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and the participants appreciated the performance of Rescue 1122 and the role played by its staff.

A special relief package was also approved for the flood victims. It was approved to increase the amount of financial assistance from 8 lakh rupees to 10 lakh rupees for the family members of the deceased. The financial assistance as compensation for the damage caused by the collapse of the concrete house was increased from 1 lakh rupees to 4 lakh rupees.

The amount of financial assistance in the case of the mud house was increased from 40 thousand rupees to 2 lakh rupees to repair the damage, while in case of loss of a large animal, financial assistance of 75 thousand rupees will be given to the affected family. The flood victims will be rehabilitated with the money collected through the flood relief fund, the CM said.

In the meeting, the release of funds was approved for building residences for doctors and medical staff at Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology and the entering into an agreement with Indus Hospital was allowed to functionalise the 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital and Nursing College in Mianwali.

In the meeting, the release of one and a half billion rupees to buy vaccines for the prevention of lumpy skin disease in animals and the release of funds of 9 billion rupees for the maintenance and repair of roads was approved. The construction and repair of roads should be started on a priority basis in the flood-affected areas, the CM directed.

The release of 3 billion 40 crore rupees to run environment-friendly buses and the establishment of the Government Graduate College for Girls in Sikandria Colony Sodiwal Lahore was approved along-with restructuring of the water management wing of the Agriculture Dept.

Senior Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal, Finance Minister Sardar Mohsin Leghari, former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister GM Sikandar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mohammad Khan Bhatti, Inspector General of Police, Chairman Planning and Development, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Secretary Services, Secretaries of various departments and senior officials attended the meeting.

International community should come forward to help Pakistan to deal with floods: Guterres 

Islamabad, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):The UN Secretary General António Guterres says the recent floods in Pakistan is the outcome of pollution created by the developed and industrialist countries, therefore they must come forward and help Pakistan to cope with the situation.

He was talking to flood affectees during his visit to a relief camp in Larkana, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday. The UN Secretary General said Pakistan is not responsible for the climate change but it has suffered the most from its effects.

António Guterres said he is not asking the industrialist countries to show their generosity but calls for justice, as they are responsible for the pollution which has caused devastation in Pakistan. He said Pakistan has no resources to overcome the current situation alone, therefore the international community must help it to reconstruct the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitate the flood affectees.

The UN Chief once again called on the industrialist countries to stop the war against nature and not to pollute the globe. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is fully realizing the problems faced by the flood affectees.

He said the federal and the provincial governments are working jointly for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the flood hit areas. The Prime Minister said Sindh was most severely affected by the recent floods. He said the government is providing 25000 rupees per family to minimize the sufferings of the flood affectees. The Foreign Minister on the occasion thanked the UN Secretary General for visiting Pakistan to convey the hardships of the flood affectees with international community.

PM vows to provide all possible assistance to flood-hit provinces

Islamabad, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says rehabilitation of the flood affected people is a major challenge and federal government will provide all possible assistance to provinces for this purpose.

He made these remarks during a visit to the flood-affected Tehsil Usta Muhammad in Jafferabad district of Balochistan along with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday.

The Prime Minister said the torrential heavy rains and floods have badly damaged the road, bridges and rail infrastructure in the province. He said Balochistan is blessed with natural resources and his government is focusing on the development of the province.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo informed the UN secretary general that they had utilized all limited resources in the rescue and relief operations. The chief secretary of Balochistan briefed the dignitaries about the devastation caused by monsoon floods and rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in the province.

The Prime Minister and the UN Secretary General also interacted with the flood affectees in Tent City Osta Muhammad and visited the school set up for the children of flood victims in Tent City. Later, Antonio Guterres visited the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of Mohenjo-Daro.

Sindh Minister for Culture and tourism Syed Sardar Shah briefed him about the preservation work of Moen Jo Daro Sites. The Minister said after hundred years the Moen Jo Daro had received 943 Millimetre Rain.

Talking to media, the United Nations secretary general reiterated that Pakistan had no capacity to rebuilding and reconstruction and urged the global community to play their role in this regard. He said that the recent floods in Pakistan had been the result of climate change and the country is among top countries that had been facing the adverse impacts of such phenomenon.

Talking to flood affected people during his visit to a relief camp in Larkana, U.N. Chief António Guterres said although Pakistan is not responsible for the climate change but it has suffered the most from its effects.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff visited far flung areas of interior Sindh in Dadu district 

Rawalpindi, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited far flung areas of interior Sindh in Dadu district. COAS spent time with flood affected people in relief and medical camps. COAS directed the formation for providing 5000 tents to flood affected people of Dadu and surrounding areas. COAS also interacted with troops busy in rescue and relief activities. Later, COAS was flown for aerial reconnaissance of flood affected areas of Dadu, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi, Meher and Manchar Lake.

Finance Minister urges business community to donate in PM Relief Fund for flood-victims

Islamabad, September 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has urged the business community to come forward and donate in Prime Minister Relief Fund for the rehabilitation of flood victims. Addressing a news conference at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Lahore on Saturday, he said every single penny of donations will be spent directly for the flood affectees in a transparent manner.

The Finance Minister said the country has witnessed unprecedented destruction due to floods in every sector including agriculture, livestock and infrastructure and everyone has to play his role for the noble cause.

Talking about the economy, he said government is committed to resolve the issues of business community, especially the exporters. He said government will continue to provide enabling environment to the exporters to increase the export of the countries.

Speaking on the occasion, President LCCI Nauman Kabir said business community is standing shoulder to shoulder with the government for the welfare of flood victims. He said LCCI will establish a village of 150 homes to rehabilitate the flood victims. He said the village will have the facility of veterinary hospital and solar based electricity along with other facilities.
