PM congratulates Maryam, Safdar on their acquittal in Avenfield case

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (r) Safdar on their acquittal in the Avenfield case.

In a tweet on Thursday, he said Maryam Nawaz’s acquittal in the Avenfield reference is a slap in the face of so-called accountability system that was employed to target Sharif family. The Prime Minister said the edifice of lies, slander and character assassination crumbled down today.

Following the decision of Islamabad High Court on her acquittal in Avenfield case, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today (Thursday).

Islamabad will appeal to UN for $500m grant to continue relief work in flood-hit areas: Envoy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram has said that Pakistan would appeal to the UN for a 500 million dollars grant to continue relief work in flood-hit areas of the country.

Taking to PTV, he said after completing task of relief work, Pakistan would start reconstruction and rehabilitation phase. The Pakistan’s envoy said, UN Secretary General met with international organizations and departments to fetch out more help for Pakistan’s flood victims.

A task force has been constituted by the UN to assist Pakistan in this regard. The ambassador also apprised that a conference would also be convened in the near future to urge the international world for more financial support aimed at reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-hit areas in Pakistan.

Pakistan has rendered unprecedented sacrifices for restoration of peace: CJCSC

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Nadeem Raza has said Pakistan has rendered unprecedented sacrifices in war against terrorism for restoration of peace in the region.

He was addressing the 146th graduation passing out parade in Asghar Khan PAF Academy Risalpur on Thursday. He said Pakistan is a peaceful country and seeks harmony and peaceful co-existence with all countries.

Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee said Pakistan Air Force always completed the hopes of the nation. He said the Armed forces are fully capable to meet challenges. He congratulated participants of the course and hoped that they would keep themselves acquainted with modern techniques to meet challenges.

FM Bilawal meets Senator Robert Menendez in Washington DC

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held a meeting with Chairman US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Robert Menendez in Washington DC on Thursday.

Expressing appreciation for the US assistance for flood relief, the Foreign Minister said magnitude of the disaster necessitated sustained and long term cooperation. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the flood crisis provided an opportunity to Pakistan to build back better, greener and resilient infrastructure. Given the huge investment required, he said Pakistan views the US as an important partner in this task.

Chairman Menendez assured of his support in enabling Pakistan to overcome this challenge. He also praised Pakistani diaspora’s role in strengthening Pakistan-US ties. Meanwhile, talking to Ranking Member of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator James Risch, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Pakistan needs much more to recover from the devastating floods. He noted that the US Congress has historically stood by Pakistan in natural disasters and urged continuing cooperation.

Pakistan adversely affected by climate change: Sherry

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman has said that Indus River is economic, agricultural and climatic jugular vein of Pakistan.

Addressing a news conference here in Islamabad on Thursday, she said change in Indus River impacts economy of Pakistan. The Minister said Pakistan is adversely affected by climate change but its contribution to greenhouse gases is very little.

She said citizens and provinces will be participating in climate adaptation project titled “The Living Indus’. She said this project is great climate project of Pakistan’s history. Sherry Rehman said Indus River is facing pollution and we need to avert these changes. She said the Climate Change Ministry has prepared 25 interventions for adaptation.

Punjab CM vows to provide all possible amenities to investors of UAE

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has termed the cooperation with United Arab Emirates (UAE) as inevitable to strengthen the infrastructure in various sectors of province.

Talking to UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi in Lahore on Thursday, the Chief Minister appreciated the prodigious investment of Dabhi group in state of the art project of Mubarik center in Lahore.

He vowed to provide all possible amenities to the investors of UAE. On the occasion, the Ambassador pledged to intensify the cooperation with Punjab government in multiple fields and also gave assurance to provide possible help for the rehabilitation of flood victims.
