According to a provincial leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan’s power sector successfully curbed the spread of circular debt and improved financial discipline during 2025, a year hailed as a major milestone for the country’s energy industry.
In a statement on Thursday, PML-N Sindh’s Asif Meraj Rajput attributed these significant outcomes to reforms and system improvements. He credited these achievements to the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the supervision of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the policies of Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Leghari.
Mr. Rajput detailed that government measures have enhanced targeted subsidies to protect consumers, established a transparent tariff system, and improved grievance redressal mechanisms.
He pointed out that the implementation of modern metering and digital monitoring in the transmission and distribution system has resulted in a record reduction in technical and commercial losses.
According to the provincial leader, institutional reforms in distribution companies (DISCOs), including the restructuring of boards and the implementation of performance-based accountability, have improved decision-making and bolstered the confidence of both consumers and investors.
He said the future strategy will focus on advancing digitalization, promoting renewable energy, continuing the structural reforms of DISCOs, and ensuring policy continuity to maintain stability in the energy sector.
