Water supply from new canal next year, tells mayor

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said today that water supply from the new canal from Hub would start to the city from August next year.

“The Red Line project is becoming an embarrassment for our government, and I will address this matter in the upcoming Trans Karachi meeting,” he told media after offering prayers at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the occasion of his 148th birth anniversary.

PPP Parliamentary Leader in City Council, Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Mohammad, Jumman Darwan, and other elected representatives were also present on the occasion.

Wahab further stated that Karachi is honored to be the birthplace of Quaid-e-Azam and where he rests. “Through his selfless leadership, Pakistan became an independent state. Jinnah faced every challenge in the Pakistan Movement with wisdom and foresight.”

He said that, contrary to the claims of critics, there was plenty of water in Karachi. Fifty thousand gallons of water had been delivered to the Baba Bhit Island via tankers, he added.

The mayor said that after the monsoon rains, the Sindh Chief Minister allocated one and a half billion rupees for the construction of roads damaged in the city.
