Karachi Police arrested seven suspects, including drug dealers and robbers, in a series of armed encounters across the city as part of a broader crackdown on street crime and narcotics, officials confirmed on Monday.
The operations, conducted under the directives of Additional Inspector General Karachi Javed Alam Odho, resulted in arrests from various districts, with recoveries including illegal arms, narcotics, and stolen property. The encounters occurred in Chakiwara, Pak Colony, North Nazimabad, and Surjani Town.
In Pak Colony’s Purana Golimar area, police arrested four suspects involved in drug trafficking-Mohammad Naeem, Mohammad Riyaz, Fazal, and Kabir-after an exchange of gunfire. All four were injured and later moved to hospital. Authorities recovered 13 pistols, 45 kg of charas, 1 kg of heroin, 2 kg of crystal meth, and Rs. 100,000 in cash from the scene.
At North Nazimabad Block T, two suspected robbers, Imdad and Mohammad Ali, were apprehended following a shootout near Tanki Ground. One suspect was injured, while a third accomplice escaped. Police seized a pistol, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle used in criminal activity.
In a separate incident at Mirza Adam Khan Road near Rabani Masjid, Chakiwara police arrested an injured suspect identified as Sooraj s/o Raham Chand after an exchange of fire. His accomplice fled the scene. A pistol and motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, in Surjani Town’s Kaneez Fatima Society, two police constables, Muhammad Farooq and Safdar, were injured during an encounter with armed robbers who managed to escape. Both officers were shifted to Agha Khan Hospital for treatment. Investigations in all cases are ongoing.
Further investigations are underway, and authorities expect more arrests based on intelligence gathered during these interrogation.
Over 1,000 Arrests in One Week
Karachi Police, in their anticrime campaign across the East, West, and South zones of the city, conducted 12 armed encounters with robbers, killing three and arresting 19 suspects, including 14 who were injured during crossfire. Officials confirmed the recovery of 19 illegal weapons, nine motorcycles, and one car used in various criminal activities.
According to the police spokesperson, these actions are part of a citywide push to dismantle criminal networks and curb the rising incidents of street crimes and drug trade. ‘We are committed to maintaining law and order across Karachi through sustained and coordinated enforcement,’ the spokesperson stated.
During the same period, the antinarcotics campaign led to the seizure of 98.141 kg of charas, 2.837 kg of crystal meth (ice), and 5.691 kg of heroin from multiple locations. The value of the confiscated drugs runs into several million rupees, highlighting the scale of the narcotics trade being targeted.
Police also recovered more than 85 illegal firearms allegedly used in robberies and other criminal incidents, along with stolen property including 27 snatched or stolen motorcycles and eight vehicles.
18,340 Challans Issued
Karachi Traffic Police issued 18,340 challans to motorists for violations disrupting traffic flow during the week. The campaign, aimed at improving traffic discipline, will continue with the goal of promoting safer travel across the city. ‘Citizens are urged to observe traffic rules and support the efforts toward a more orderly Karachi,’ said the traffic police spokesperson.
The Karachi Police plan to continue targeted actions, supported by intelligence, to ensure longterm reduction in urban crime and improve public safety, the spokesman concluded.
