Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, has emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to boosting academic partnerships throughout the Islamic world.
He delivered the keynote address at the 6th Vice Chancellors’ Forum’s opening session at the ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, Morocco. Coorganized by HEC Pakistan and ICESCO, the forum convened university leaders from OIC nations to discuss critical educational issues, including sustainability, research effects, climate adaptability, and preparing institutions for the future.
Addressing an assembly of education leaders, government officials, and international dignitaries, Dr. Ahmed highlighted Pakistan”s devotion to joint research and environmental education. He stressed the crucial part universities play in tackling emerging worldwide issues, particularly climate change. ‘In this period of global change, the function of universities must be reimagined – not simply as protectors of knowledge, but as drivers of harmony, advancement, and creativity,’ he declared.
The HEC Chairman underscored the significance of incorporating climate change into higher education curricula and research programs, calling it ‘an intergenerational concern that crosses boundaries.’ He also recognized ICESCO”s guidance and thanked global thought leaders and officials from Morocco, the Maldives, Libya, and other nations for their presence.
Showcasing Pakistan”s efforts, the Chairman mentioned the ILMBANK program, which has provided 1332 scholarships from 25 top Pakistani universities to students from OIC member states. ‘As the initial donor to ILMBANK, Pakistan maintains its commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable access to advanced learning across the Muslim world,’ he remarked. He also engaged in bilateral discussions with Dr. Lidia BorrellDamián, Secretary General of Science Europe, examining avenues for research partnerships and organizational connections between Pakistan and European research entities.
Dr. Ahmed further announced that Pakistan has achieved the most Erasmus Mundus scholarships internationally for the fourth year in a row, showcasing Pakistani students” academic capabilities and the nation”s expanding global presence in higher education.
