The Pakistan Coast Guard has further strengthened the agency’s efforts against smuggling and other illegal activities by adding two new boats to its fleet at a ceremony at the Karachi port. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the chief guest of the ceremony, was received by the Coast Guard Director General, Major General Jawad Riaz. The ceremony was attended by senior military and civilian officers, members of the diplomatic corps, and dignitaries from various sectors.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the Coast Guard’s performance both at sea and on land, acknowledging its crucial role in maritime security and law enforcement against smuggling, illegal immigration, and illegal fishing. He particularly recognized their successful operations against drug smuggling and human trafficking networks.
The minister said the addition of two new RHIBs will significantly enhance the Coast Guard’s operational capabilities and help curb smuggling. He emphasized the detrimental effects of drug trafficking and smuggling on Pakistan and the global community, stressing the need for smuggling prevention, destruction of seized drugs, and public awareness.
Earlier this year, the Coast Guard destroyed a large quantity of seized goods, including 10,862 kg of hashish, 80 kg of crystal meth, 1,758 kg of heroin, 117 kg of ice, 150 kg of charas and 2,888 bottles of liquor. The international market value of these items, which were set on fire in Gwadar, Uthal, and Karachi, was approximately $329 million.
