Pakistan has endorsed the efforts of the Syrian government to address transitional justice and the issue of missing persons, which are critical steps in dealing with the aftermath of the protracted conflict in Syria.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, praised Syria’s efforts during the Arria Formula meeting today. He emphasized that the establishment of national commissions and the drafting of transitional justice legislation are fundamental steps that require strong legal and institutional frameworks to achieve their objectives and respond to the legitimate expectations of victims and their families.
The long-term Syrian conflict has imposed severe hardships on its population. As Syria enters a potential period of transition, Ahmad stressed the need for unwavering support from the international community for Syria’s sustainable peace, stability, national unity, and the reconstruction journey of the war-torn nation.
