In the intra-party elections of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek Karachi Division held on Monday, Rao Kamran Mehmood was elected as the new president, securing 96 percent of the votes with the support of the Qaumi Panel.
Ilyas Mughal, who contested the election alongside Mehmood, was also elected General Secretary. Their panel achieved an overwhelming majority as a result of their comprehensive campaign in the city’s districts and provincial constituencies.
Three candidates for the presidency and two for the post of General Secretary competed in the party elections. The results were announced by Election Commission members Masood Usmani, Sikandar, Naveed Karim, and Atiq Ahmed Chishti.
Following the announcement, party workers and officials in all districts of the provincial capital celebrated the results and congratulated the new leadership.
Meanwhile, the central leadership of the Pakistan Qaumi Tehreek congratulated Mehmood and Mughal on their success. They expressed hope that the new office-bearers would play a key role in highlighting and resolving the important issues facing the city.
