Anti-Pollution Drive in Punjab, Over 2500 Arrests, Fines in Crores

In a wide-ranging campaign against violators of environmental laws this year, provincial authorities have detained 2,587 individuals and imposed financial penalties exceeding 23 crore 21 lakh rupees.

Official sources confirmed today that in the latest phase of the crackdown over the past 24 hours, 15 new cases were registered and several individuals were arrested. During this period, fines exceeding ten lakh rupees were imposed, and dozens of violators were issued warnings.

These operations are targeting various illegal activities causing air pollution and smog, including the burning of crop residue, operating smoke-emitting vehicles, and substandard brick kilns and industrial units.

These enforcement actions are part of the ‘Smog-Free Punjab’ campaign, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar has directed law enforcement agencies to intensify anti-smog measures and maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy against violators of environmental laws.
