The Sindh government has moved forward with a major railway infrastructure project to transport coal from Thar to Port Qasim, this important decision was highlighted in a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, the high-level meeting held today was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, the chief secretary, and other relevant officials, where a total of 27 agenda items were considered.
Chief Minister Shah stated that this initiative is based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Sindh government and the Ministry of Railways in October 2025.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Ministry of Railways is responsible for constructing new rail infrastructure to transport coal from the Thar reserves.
The Chief Minister, providing details, said that the project includes laying a 105-kilometer long railway line from the Thar coal area to Chhor.
Furthermore, a 9-kilometer long double-track railway line will also be laid between Bin Qasim and Port Qasim to complete the logistics corridor.
