Islamabad Police today intensified a city-wide crackdown on the hazardous practice of kite flying, arresting 13 individuals involved in selling or participating in the activity over the past 24 hours amidst rising concerns over the lethal threat posed by kite strings to public safety.
According to official details, the indiscriminate operation resulted in the apprehension of both kite flyers and vendors, against whom legal action has been initiated and formal cases have been registered.
SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, stressed the importance of community involvement, stating that parents must educate their children about the severe dangers and legal consequences associated with the pastime. He urged citizens to fulfill their social responsibilities by playing an active role in its prevention.
The SSP further disclosed that awareness campaigns have been extended to places of worship, with announcements made in masjids across all police station jurisdictions regarding the hazards of kite selling and flying.
“Kite flying is a dangerous activity that can result in lifelong disability or even death,” Raza emphasized, defining the practice as a crime that will be dealt with strictly.
He confirmed the enforcement drive against this “deadly activity” will continue with full force, adding that “kite strings pose a serious threat to human lives, and the loss of innocent lives due to this hazardous sport will not be tolerated.”
The SSP reaffirmed that protecting the lives and property of the capital”s residents remains the foremost priority of the Islamabad Police, and every possible measure will be taken in this regard.
