Khairpur Police, during a major operation on the National Highway, foiled a major illegal tobacco business, arresting two individuals and seizing a large quantity of substandard cigarettes.
The operation was initiated on Saturday on the instructions of SP Khairpur Dr. Samiullah Soomro. A team from Shah Hussain Police Station, led by SHO Abdul Ghaffar Phulpoto, conducted a targeted raid which resulted in these arrests.
The two arrested individuals have been identified as Zakir Hussain Tanio and Waqar Ali Koso. They were taken into custody for their involvement in the trade of substandard and non-customs paid tobacco products.
The authorities seized 1,150 cartons of unregistered cigarettes and also took the vehicle used by the accused into custody. After the recovery, a formal case has been registered against the accused.
During the initial investigation, the accused confessed to their involvement in an extensive distribution network, revealing they supplied illegal cigarettes to various districts of Sindh province.
Further investigation is underway to probe the full extent of this smuggling operation.
