A wave of violent crime swept across different parts of the city on Saturday, resulting in the death of one man, the injury of two laborers in a suspected extortion attempt, and three separate police encounters that left suspects wounded.
In the Sachal police jurisdiction, a young man identified as 25-year-old Raheem Uddin, son of Mubeen Uddin, was fatally shot in the Safoora Saadi Town area. Authorities reported that the motive behind the killing remains unknown. The deceased was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities as an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Meanwhile, in the Garden area, two laborers were wounded by gunfire near Zam Zam Hotel in the Battery Market. The victims, named as Mumtaz, son of Mashooq, and Sajid, son of Faqeer, were reportedly handed a chit before being shot. Both injured individuals were moved to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medical attention. An official probe is ongoing.
Law enforcement agencies were actively engaged throughout the day, with three distinct armed confrontations reported in various districts.
At the Sohrab Goth Service Road near Kabab Jee Restaurant, a firefight between police and alleged dacoits led to the arrest of one suspect in an injured state. The individual was identified as Rauf, son of Shankai, while a second suspect managed to flee the scene. A pistol and a mobile phone were seized from the location. The wounded accused was taken to ASH for treatment.
A similar incident occurred in Defence Phase 6 near Ayesha Masjid, where a shootout with suspected robbers resulted in the apprehension of an injured man named Adnan, also known as Kala, son of Gulzar. His accomplice successfully escaped. Authorities recovered a pistol, ammunition, and a motorcycle from the spot. The injured suspect was hospitalized.
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the CIA also engaged in a gun battle with robbers in Liaquatabad near the Lyari Expressway. One alleged robber was captured after being injured in the exchange of fire. A pistol, rounds, and gold jewelry were confiscated by the police. He was subsequently transferred to a medical facility.
In a separate case of violence in District Central, a man identified as Ahmed Hassan, approximately 25 to 30 years of age, sustained an injury from a stray bullet. The incident took place at the North Karachi 2 minutes chowrangi near Descent Hotel. He was also shifted to ASH for medical care.
Police have initiated further investigations into all reported incidents.
